Liddy and Pippa took a long after-dinner walk to Shadyside, stopping at Mercurio’s on Walnut Street. Pippa enjoyed Death by Chocolate and Stracciatella while Liddy had Strawberry Cheesecake and Dulce de Leche. Mercurio’s holds special meaning for the Barlows: not only have Greg and Liddy been fans of their award-winning gelato for longer than Pippa and Edmund have been alive, but we also purchased our current home from a member of the Mercurio family!

The first Barlow home in Pittsburgh was in Shadyside, and so after finishing their gelato, Liddy and Pippa revisited landmarks from earlier times. Liddy visited Walnut Street on her first-ever visit to Pittsburgh; Greg was once a member of Shadyside Presbyterian Church; and Pippa came home from the hospital to our old condo on Bayard Road. Shadyside is an affluent neighborhood featuring CAPA’s mock-trial rival Winchester Thurston School, many large homes, and grand architecture; we admired the fancy mansions.

Fun Fact:
Shadyside’s Roslyn Place, constructed from blocks of oak, is thought to be one of the only remaining wooden streets in the United States.
