We’re bringing back the godparents theme for a super fun trip with Edmund’s godparents to Coudersport in Potter County, Pennsylvania. We made the trip both to see them and to go to Cherry Springs State Park, a dark sky park where, despite a chilly night, we got to see so many more stars than you can see from any of the 90 neighborhoods. Other attractions in Potter County include the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum, where we learned about the history of the lumber industry in Pennsylvania and Olga’s Gallery in the town center where we met Olga herself, a multidisciplinary artist and Ukrainian immigrant. Pippa’s newfound ability to spell “Allegheny” (thanks to this blog) comes in handy once again as Potter County is also home to the source of the Allegheny River; while we didn’t make it to that exact spot, we did see a much smaller Allegheny then we’re used to at home.
You’re probably wondering where we found ice cream! Potter County is also home to Gary’s Putter Golf, founded 63 years ago (we found that out when we met the legendary Gary himself), which in addition to a super fun 27-hole mini-golf course, also has a zipline over the pond, paddle boats, and a restaurant that serves ice cream! We enjoyed our cones. Although we failed to write down the delicious flavors (except for Pippa’s: raspberry rendezvous), we’ll never forget the absolutely massive scoops.
Fun Fact:
Cherry Springs State Park features the darkest sky east of the Mississippi. The whole of Potter County, though, has sky perfect for stargazing, and we did our fair share of lying on the ground checking out the Milky Way.
