Since Edmund’s school, Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy, is located in North Oakland, the neighborhood made a perfect after school trip. Pippa took the bus over, and the two of us stopped by Schenley Scoops for a sweet treat. Edmund had a Coke float and Pippa enjoyed a cone of delicious strawberry ice cream. We took a short walk around the neighborhood, noting the crowds of University of Pittsburgh students enjoying the nice weather.

North Oakland includes part of the Pitt campus, including the Cathedral of Learning where one of Pippa’s mock trial competitions takes place. The neighborhood is also home to the main branch of the Carnegie Library and the Carnegie Art and Natural History museums.

Fun Fact:
The Cathedral of Learning is the tallest educational building in the western hemisphere. One standout feature is the Nationality Rooms, classrooms designed to represent the heritages of the people of Pittsburgh.
