Brighton Heights was a milestone stop for this blog: our first media attention and our first 90 Cones fans in the wild! We met up with a journalist from the CAPA Chronicle (watch for an article coming soon!) at the California Coffee Bar in Brighton Heights for an interview and some milkshakes. Pippa enjoyed the raspberry and Liddy had lavender, both of which were delicious. As we ordered, we heard our names, and turned around to find 90 Cones readers Hunter and Sean. Thanks for reading, friends!

We really enjoyed visiting Brighton Heights, a large neighborhood with homes of every style and size, views of the Central Business District, and a variety of businesses. It has strong community organizing; the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation, a community organization founded in 1967, helps to maintains the neighborhood, spread community spirt, and maintain flower gardens. It’s home to many parks including Jack Stack Park which has a playground, multiple baseball fields, and courts. Brighton Heights also has impressive war memorials and many churches and faith institutions, including Greater Allen AME Church, All Saints Episcopal Church, and the Little Sisters of the Poor. Neither of us had spent much time in this neighborhood before, but we left convinced it would be a very pleasant place to live.

Fun Fact:
The Davis Avenue Bridge, which connects Brighton Heights to Riverview Park in Perry North, originally opened in 1899. However, over time it deteriorated, causing concern that it would collapse, and eventually forcing residents who lived beneath it in Marshall Shadeland to move. In 2009 the bridge was demolished. In 2025 a beautiful new pedestrian bridge opened, reuniting Brighton Heights with access to the park.
