Lower Lawrenceville, only a short drive from our house, made for a nice after-dinner trip. The large area of Lawrenceville is divided into three separate neighborhoods on the official city map. Millie’s, a local ice cream chain, has a location on Butler Street that worked perfectly as our destination. Liddy had Arnold Palmer flavored ice cream (not her favorite, but a nice concept). Pippa had Strawberry Scooter Crunch, part of Millie’s summer collection, and Edmund had Triple Cookie Caramel. Highlights of our walk included Arsenal Park, with its refurbished playground; the site of Liddy’s old office, now a newly-built headquarters for the Capuchin Friars; and the Doughboy Statue, a WWI and WWII memorial.
Fun Fact:
Admittedly not “fun,” but Arsenal Park was the site of a devastating arsenal explosion during the Civil War that killed 78 workers.
